VRFocus Gamejam Round-Up

Climax studios joined with leading publication VRFocus for the UK’s biggest virtual reality game-jam yet. Four teams competed to create a unique game in 24 hours. Industry mentors, including Climax’s own Russ, were on hand to lend their games expertise to the entrants.

Groups ranged from all over the world and a rich mix of professional backgrounds and unique skill-sets, all united in their passion for emergent technology VR. The general air of enthusiasm and creativity was contagious!

Once the theme “A safe pair of hands” was announced, teams readied themselves for a long night of games development with pizza, energy drinks and grit. Technical issues were quickly put to rest by the keen participants and revealed many new facets of developing for VR.

On the following day the teams emerged, somewhat sleep deprived, with four brand new games, each made specifically using the motion controllers of the HTC Vive in mind. They were judged by a panel of VR experts.

The winners, whose title involved capturing adorable kittens while balanced precariously on a giant rolling meat grinder, received a HTC Vive each.
